The whole fist page of your book is my husband and my high school best friend to a T! They were both special education students. It also reminded me of all of my special education students when they leave their general education classrooms to come to my room. It breaks my heart to know people and other students look at and feel about student with disabilities. You and your book should be a reminder to everyone that just because students are on an IEP, doesn't mean they can't turn into something amazing! Thank you so much for writing and publishing! Definitely the best book I have read in a very long time! #Book256

I received mine on Wednesday. I am almost done with it. I have had a hard time putting it down to even go to bed. Your honesty about your childhood, is what stood out for me because I grew up with an alcoholic father. So it hit home for me. That feeling that I was different from my friends. But I have also really enjoyed reading how you came into yourself through all of it. Which made me reflect on how I have grown through all the trials in my life. I truly love it and can't wait to finish reading it. Thank you for your sincerity and your honesty. ❤️❤️

What was your favorite chapter?

The adversity you went through from childhood to adulthood, I think, is what made you what you are today. Your care, compassion & wanting to “#HelpMore Foundation” are such admirable qualities that are what this world needs right now. I got your book this week (First Edition…copy 62) & started it yesterday & finished it today. Thank you so much for writing…Awkward in a Thin Blue Line & sharing it. You talked about religion not being so much a part of you but what you have shared is how God wants us all to be so I think you’re much closer to God than you know, & I hope He continues to bless you & your family. BTW thank you for sharing the pictures you did, too.

Did something in the book remind you of your own life?

I picked this book up and did not set it back down until I was done, 2.5 hours all 233 pages. Your childhood story is similar in so many ways to mine. Your reasons to be a good parent are the same. Your heart of gold to be kind and human are what stick with me the most. You have chosen to be YOU unapologetically no matter the outcome. Your heart to help and to listen is why we love following your journey. My husband (former tow truck driver) met you in person on multiple occasions, you stuck out to him because of your ways and who you are and were on duty. I personally have not had the chance to meet you in person, but I look forward to the day I do!

What was your favorite chapter?

It is amazing what one kind gesture can do to change things. In your case it was being asked to join the wrestling team. That was a great turning point for you and started your journey to where you are today. My boys learned discipline and perseverance through wrestling also. It was the best thing for them and apparently you as well. It shows how you can overcome challenges and become a better person. Absolutely loved the book!!

Was there a sentence or paragraph that stayed with you?

“I’m not having a midlife crisis,” I wrote. “I’m having a midlife correction.” I feel this in my soul! Trooper Ben takes you through the different of his life with honesty, humility, and the right amount of humor. You feel like you’re having a conversation with him as you’re reading. You’re not going to want to put it down!

What would you tell someone thinking about reading it?

Awkward in a thin blue line is written as if the reader is sitting across the table asking TROOPER BEN the question: "so tell me about yourself ". As you read you'll come to a deeper understanding of the man and his heart to listen, value and help those he comes in contact with everyday. From a middle child in a dysfunctional family to the man standing before audiences of all ages. From Awkward to AMAZING you see how it's possible for each of us to GO AND GROW . As his mother I am incredibly proud of him and his caring heart. Enjoy AWKWARD IN A THIN BLUE LINE .
